Japanned “Wall Tree” Copper Flashed Brass Rotating Wall Coat Rack by Peedee

A rare early 20th century industrial wall-mounted Japanned (copper flashed) “Wall Tree” coat rack manufactured by Peedee’s Inc. of Winona Lake, Indiana. Crafted in copper flashed brass with a beautifully aged patina, the piece features a rotating hook design with multiple curved arms radiating from a central support. Retaining its original “Wall Tree” maker’s plaque marked “Patents Pending,” this sculptural and uncommon example displays age-appropriate wear, oxidation, and patina consistent with vintage industrial pieces, making it an exceptional addition to an entryway, mudroom, or industrial-inspired interior.

Japanning is a type of finish that originated as a European imitation of East Asian lacquer work. It was first used on furniture, but was later much used on small items in metal. The word originated in the 17th century.
